Re-elected Lake Macquarie mayor Kay Fraser says she is looking forward to another term of progress and cooperation following formal declaration of the new council.

The NSW Electoral Commission declared the successful candidates across the city’s three wards this week, with four newcomers joining the fray.

Cr Fraser secured 69.17% of the mayoral vote to secure top spot for the next term, which continues until September 2024.

The new council comprises six Labor representatives, three Liberals and three from the Lake Macquarie Independents group.

“We might have different political backgrounds, but I’m confident we can work together for the good of our city,” Cr Fraser said.

“We consistently demonstrated that it’s possible throughout the last term of council.

“And, with so many exciting projects and initiatives coming up over the next few years, I feel strongly that this can continue.”

Cr Fraser congratulated all returning councillors, and those newly-elected.

“Our community has spoken,” she said.

“It has chosen the 13 of us to represent them across the grassroots services so important in the daily lives of our 208,000 residents, as well as all the people who come here to visit, work and play.”

The first Ordinary Council Meeting of the new term will take place on Monday 10 January.
