Hundreds are expected to make their way through a plethora of stalls that will make up this weekend’s My Future, My Choice Hunter Disability Expo.
The two-day event, at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, will bring together a wide range of products, providers and people for people living with a disability, and their carers.
Aimed at linking thousands of people with a disability with hundreds of product and service providers, the event will also include the presentation of a range of informative and interactive presentations delivered by industry experts.
People with disability are encouraged to embrace My Future, My Choice as a way to control how they want to live their lives now and plan for the future.
This year’s expo will showcase more than 160 government and advocacy organisations, aids and equipment providers, financial and legal services, education, training and employment providers.
It will also feature and array of social and leisure providers, transport and vehicles, health and medical products and services, allied health professionals and support services, including in-home care providers.
Fronting the event will be Hunter Disability Expo 2023 Expo Ambassador Alex McKinnon.
Alex was 22, playing professional rugby league with the Newcastle Knights, when he suffered a horrific spinal cord injury on the field.
Confronted by the inability to walk, use his hands, or perform normal daily activities, he was suddenly facing unimaginable challenges.
Now a loving father of three beautiful daughters, a student studying Psychological Science at the University of Newcastle and a contributor for Fox Sports’ NRL coverage, Alex made a commitment to break the ‘why me?’ mentality and make the most of his situation.
The event emcee will be Mel Harrison.
She’ll be sharing her remarkable experience travelling with the My Future, My Choice Disability Expos, as well as the importance of disability awareness and how she inspires others through her positivity.
The Hunter Disability Expo will take place on both Friday 12 and Saturday 13 May from 9am to 3pm.
