Much-loved TV presenter Jane Goldsmith is the first “big name” casualty of WIN Network’s restructure at NBN News.
Originally from Port Macquarie, and a University of Newcastle graduate, she’s been a familiar face in the Hunter for more than two decades, delivering the news with professionalism, warmth and a deep connection to the community she serves.
But, the gifted journalist and mother-of-three announced on Thursday 25 June that her final bulletin would take place that night.
“I’m grateful to have worked alongside an outstanding team, past and present, bringing you the local stories that matter,” Ms Goldsmith said.
“My colleagues and dear friends will continue to do that – please continue to support them.
“25 years on the road in the Hunter and behind the desk… and I’ve loved every minute of it.
“See you tonight at six.”
Ms Goldsmith, who graced the cover of the Newcastle Weekly in March 2025, said she was looking forward to the “next chapter” in her illustrious career.
WIN recently confirmed NBN News would transition to a dedicated 30-minute bulletin starting 29 June, airing Monday to Friday at 5.30pm, followed by Nine News at 6pm.
It also wrapped up the weekend edition on 21 June.
In Newcastle alone, the number of journalists is expected to fall from 10 to four – a reduction of six full-time roles – while camera operators in the city are slated to drop from seven to three.
