Moxey, Simpson lay platform for Pythons’ victory

SHARE

A half century to Jarrod Moxey and a five-wicket haul to Blake Simpson laid the platform for the Port Stephens Pythons’ 65-run victory over the Adamstown Rosebuds in the Newcastle District Cricket Association’s Suburban Districts division one competition at the weekend.

Battling the blustery conditions at King Park, Raymond Terrace, the hosts managed to post 7-152 on Saturday.

Moxey led the charge with the bat, smashing 67, and was ably supported by Lleyton Eveleigh who chipped in with 19.

The wickets were shared between Tom Tredinnick (2-17), Dean Trajanovski (2-29) and Corey Bruce (2-32).

In reply, the Rosebuds were no match for the bowling skills of Simpson.

He picked up the scalps of Tredinnick (1), Andrew Hamonet (2), Elliott McLeod (8), Aaron Burrows (0) and Alexander Bird (0) to finish with 5-19.

Only PJ Consadine troubled the scorers with 25 as the side was bundled out for 87.

At Salamander Bay, Redhead CC trounced Nelson Bay CC by 50 runs in the third-round encounter.

The visitors amassed 9-168 on the back of Joey Parson’s 40 and Richard Moolman’s 26.

Matt King also produced a handy cameo, bludgeoning 25 off 37 balls that included a couple of boundaries and a six.

It was an impressive team total, given that Doug Rowland snared 5-25 off six overs.

Nelson Bay’s charge ended on 118, as Moolman claimed 3-13 and Ben Monk picked up 3-25.

Matt Palmer (31) and Peter Lester (25) gave the tally some respectability.

Meanwhile, Merewether and Wallsend shared the points at Connolly Park, due to the intervention of the wet weather during the week.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, incomplete scorecards were submitted for the Mary Ellen Mudrats-Adamstown Premier Hotel and Wests Water Board-Wests Journeymen fixtures at Adamstown Park Oval and Jesmond Park respectively.
