NovaCare Community Services and Toronto Croquet Club are two of the winners following this week’s Lake Macquarie City Council meeting.
Gathering at the local government’s headquarters at Speers Point, councillors voted to allow both organisations to continue their respective leases for a further five-year term.
NovaCare Community Services will continue assisting those in need with independent living at the Morisset Multi-Purpose Centre and Toronto Croquet Club will be granted an additional five-year lease of the Lake Macquarie Croquet Centre at Glendale.
Lake Macquarie City mayor Kay Fraser said it was great to see council supporting initiatives that enhanced the quality of life for residents.
“NovaCare is a well-established aged care and community support provider and their involvement will ensure our facility continues to serve our community effectively,” she said.
The new lease comes after the previous lessee was terminated on 11 January 2024 following notification of their liquidation.
NovaCare Community Services has managed the centre in the interim while council undertook an expression of interest process for a community organisation to lease the facility.
In addition, the Lake Mac Croquet Centre, opened in April, will remain under the care of Toronto Croquet Club.
Other winners from Monday evening’s meeting are business owners within the Wyee township.
The centre itself is expected to witness an economic boom in coming years after councillors opted to proceed with plans to rezone 106 Wyee Road and 1496 Hue Hue Road to allow for future commercial development.
Plans for this development will be on public exhibition for the next 28 days.
Councillors also recommended approving the purchase of a 4350m2 parcel of land at 46 Fairfax Road in Warners Bay.
The land forms part of an environmental corridor which contains an endangered ecological community.
A new subdivision at Wyee Point took a step closer too, with councillors recommending the approval of the purchase of 9A Clarence Street, which is located within a paper subdivision known as Ramsgate Estate.
The purchase aims to improve environmental outcomes and prevent conflicts arising from privately-owned land within environmental conservation areas.
Meanwhile, councillors approved an application to place a telecommunications facility within an existing electrical substation at 39-47 Wommara Avenue in Belmont North.
The facility aims to provide critical infrastructure to the area, giving the community and businesses improved and more reliable mobile coverage.
