More than 130 students are set to make history as the first Year 7 cohort at the new Medowie High School when it opens in 2027.
The school is on track to welcome students from Day 1, Term 1 next year, with construction continuing at the Port Stephens site.
The early enrolment numbers highlight strong local demand for the new public high school, with Medowie among the fastest-growing communities in the region.
The town’s population is expected to increase by more than 4,000 residents by 2040.
For local families, the new school will also reduce the need for students to travel outside Medowie each day to attend a public high school.
The campus will include 29 modern classrooms, specialist support facilities, science laboratories, wood and metalwork workshops, creative and performing arts spaces, a multipurpose hall, library, administration facilities, canteen and sporting areas.
Road and infrastructure upgrades are also being carried out along Abundance Road and Ferodale Road ahead of the opening, with works aimed at improving traffic flow and providing safer pick-up, drop-off and pedestrian access.
Medowie High School will be the first new high school built in the Hunter in more than 25 years.
Principal Kylee Beasley said the level of interest ahead of the opening was encouraging.
“It is incredibly exciting to see such strong interest in Medowie High School ahead of our school opening next year,” she said.
“It is particularly encouraging to see so many students coming from local partner schools and choosing to continue their secondary education within their community.
“We are looking forward to welcoming our first students and building a strong school community from day one.”
Enrolments remain open for the school’s inaugural Year 7 cohort.
