Mileo pens homage to poor choices

Australian-born musician Mileo was getting ready to fly out to Los Angeles to record with producers and writers who had worked alongside the likes of Britney Spears, Selena Gomez and David Guetta.

However, he was forced to put those plans on hold when the pandemic hit, instead returning to Newcastle to be with his family.

Well-known for his sarcastic and sharp tongued lyrics coated in catchy hooks, Mileo has wasted little time and recently celebrated the release of his new single I date some dumbass people.

The song pokes fun at the ridiculousness of his past – it’s a light-hearted, laugh-through-the-pain style that he hopes his fans will adopt.

“If you’ve dated someone who wasn’t ideal, it sucks at the time,” he says.

“And if you’re sad or angry about it now, I just want you to know that you’ll laugh about it one day.

“Don’t take it too seriously because everyone feels this way at some point – hopefully this song makes you feel a little better.”

The 25-year-old adds he is proud to have been able to celebrate its release with his biggest supporter.

“Mum was actually the one who suggested changing the names – the people will probably know who they are, but that isn’t what the song’s about,” he says.

“It’s just supposed to be a light-hearted look at dating and all of the ups and downs.

While his family loves the song, Mileo is nervous to find out how it’s being received across the globe.

He has already been getting lots of positive messages from fans on social media, and hopes the track will continue growing in popularity.

“It’s always a little stressful, not knowing, but I’m glad a lot of my fans have been encouraging – I’m just trying not to think about it too much,” he says.

Like many creatives around the world, Mileo has been hit hard by COVID-19.

Even though he’s enjoying the time with his family, he says he’s looking forward to when this is all over and he can travel and perform again.

“COVID has made it hard,” he says. “I’d like to get back over to LA to continue working on new music and collaborations.

“In the future, I’d also like to perform more here in Australia. Ideally we’ll get back to it eventually, but for now I’m just asking everyone to stream the new track and share their thoughts on it.”

I date some dumbass people is now available to stream on Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, YouTube Music, Google Play, and Deezer.
