Mherv rolls into Hunter Valley to focus on men’s health

“Saving men’s lives” is the catch cry of the Rotary Men’s Health Education Rural Van (Mherv), which will roll into the Hunter Valley this month.

With the support of the Royal Freemasons Benevolent Institution (RFBI), a Registered Nurse not only undertakes free basic check-ups for the “blokes” but also ladies.

The van’s first stop is scheduled to take place at Morisset, at the Bunnings car park, on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 March between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Rotary Club of Warners Bay project leader Graeme Hooper said more than 40% of people who visited Mherv actually required further medical attention.

“Sadly, 4% of them needed urgent care by a GP,” he stated.

“Over the past four years, the van has dealt with nearly 11,000 men and women, so it has potentially saved in excess of 400 people from a severe health event.

“Each consultation takes approximately 10 minutes – and the nurse provides feedback on blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

“So, it’s not a long time to spend in order to save a life.”

Mherv will also drop into the RFBI Villages at Lake Haven and Kurri Kurri.
