Mayfield prepares to ‘party’ again

SHARE

One Newcastle suburb will embrace a party atmosphere this weekend, when Mayfield Day returns to the social calendar.

Following the success of the inaugural event in 2022, the free community extravaganza heads back to Webb Park, in Waratah Street, on Saturday 13 May.

Between 10am and 3pm, locals and visitors alike can relish cuisine, music, markets and much more.

“We were so pleased with the feedback from everyone last year, it seems Mayfield Day is here to stay,” Mayfield Business Improvement Association (BIA) chair Tony Sansom said.

“Bring the kids, their friends, your dog, cat, goldfish or whoever you can, because you won’t want to miss out on what this event has to offer.

“We’re celebrating Mayfield in all its glory.

“We’ll have an array of market stalls, including those of local community, artists, food trucks and vendors, kids’ activities and, of course, entertainment showcasing performers from Mayfield Business Improvement Association’s Live Spot Music Program.”

Hunter Events Group director Louise Manning said there would be “something for everyone” to enjoy.

“There was an amazing turn-out of people from locals and beyond last year,” she added.

“And, we’re hoping that number will swell this weekend.

“It is incredible to see the camaraderie of everyone when they are together.

“It was nice to witness lots of families and friends catching up and having a good time – bringing a picnic rug and having lunch.

“It seemed the kids were kept amused by the giant human frogs (or great actors), the face painting and the music, which meant the adults could sit and chat in peace.

“It was a lovely environment.”

Nestled among the hip coffee shops and niche second-hand clothes stores lies Webb Park, which will host the Mayfield BIA, Mex Club and City of Newcastle-supported event.

Young local talent is scheduled to perform throughout the day, while The Creative Co will conduct kids’ workshops to keep them occupied.

All members of the community are encouraged to attend, with admission free.
