Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie praises ‘boating community’ for quick actions

Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie personnel have praised onlookers for their quick actions in saving three people on Saturday morning.

Radio operators at Swansea Heads were alerted to an overturned vessel, leaving the trio in the water, approximately 200m off the northern breakwall at Blacksmiths, just before 11.30am on 29 January.

A spokesperson for the organisation said the immediate response from those in close proximity to the incident made it “a great outcome” for everyone.

“The local boating community banded together to help the people in the water,” he said.

“Another boatie called in the details and got the attention of nearby jest ski operators, who raced to the area to assist those in trouble.

“Luckily, there were no injuries to the three people.

“It is terrific to see the boating community pull together in times of need.

“Our [marine rescue] crews were then able to secure the vessel before collecting the debris in the water.”
