Man winched to safety after rolling ride-on mower

A man had to be winched to safety after rolling his ride-on mower on a remote fire trail south-west of Cessnock on Wednesday.

Just before 12.30pm on 22 December, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS) was tasked by NSW Ambulance to Wollombi.

It’s understood the male, believed to be in his 50s, had suffered injuries and was still trapped under the mower.

Local paramedics and emergency service personnel attended the location but were delayed in accessing the scene, due to the terrain and remoteness.

Upon its arrival, the WRHS began a search of the area, locating the man in question.

The chopper’s Critical Care Medical Team was then lowered in and started treatment, prior to the appearance of rescue crews, who released the man from under the mower.

Once stabilised, he was hoisted into the helicopter and flown direct to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
