Man to face court over Raymond Terrace armed robberies

A 25-year-old man will face court over his involvement in two alleged armed robberies at Raymond Terrace in recent weeks.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District began an investigation on Tuesday 23 December following several alarming reports.

They were informed two men entered a business on William Street about 6.40pm that evening before threatening an employee and demanding cash.

It’s claimed one of them assaulted the worker – a 23-year-old male – with a metal pole.

They then left with cigarettes and an amount of cash.

The employee was not injured.

Police were also called to another business on William Street about 7am on Thursday 15 January after receiving reports of an alleged armed robbery.

Two men entered the store, stole packets of cigarettes and an amount of cash before leaving in a black sedan.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a 25-year-old on Campbell Drive about 3pm on Thursday 15 January.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, and robbery in company.

After being refused bail, he’ll appear at Bail Division Court 2 on Friday 16 January.

The police investigation is contiunuing.
