Police are searching for a driver after a man was injured, and a dog killed, in an alleged hit and run at Nelson Bay on Tuesday.
It’s understood the 71-year-old was walking his canine on Stockton Street, near the roundabout at Church Street, just before 9am on 13 January.
He paused briefly at the pedestrian traffic island in the middle of the thoroughfare, before continuing to cross the road.
A vehicle – described as a blue Ford Territory or similar – entered the roundabout.
It then clipped the man, impacting his left elbow and leg, and struck the dog, too, killing it instantly.
Amazingly, the driver did not stop or provide details.
Officers attached to Port-Stephens Hunter Police District have now started an investigation into the incident.
As inquiries continue, they’re hoping to speak to the driver of a blue Ford Territory wagon seen in the area at the time.
Anyone with information, dash cam or CCTV footage is asked to contact Nelson Bay Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
