A man has died following a motorcycle crash in the Upper Hunter overnight.
About 10.15pm on Tuesday 20 July, emergency services were called to Old Scone Road and Macartney Street, Merriwa, after reports a Triumph motorcycle with a rider and a pillion passenger had left the road and thrown both persons from the bike.
Tragically, the rider died at the scene.
He is yet to be formally identified, however it’s believed he’s aged in his 50s.
The passenger – a 29-year-old man – received minor injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
Officers from Hunter Valley Police District attended and established a crime scene.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Earlier in the evening, about 7.15pm, Newcastle City Police District officers attended the intersection of Grayson Street and Park Avenue Kotara after a 56-year-old male rider came off his motorcycle.
He underwent a breath test, which returned a positive reading.
The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis, which provided a reading of 0.217 (high-range PCA).
The rider was issued with a Court Attendance Notice to appear in Newcastle Local Court in August.
