A 40-year-old man has been charged following an investigation into traffic and firearm offences at Booral last month.
Police attempted to stop a blue Ford Falcon on The Bucketts Ways about 8am on Thursday 13 February 2024 after inquiries revealed the vehicle was stolen from Queensland.
It’s understood the driver allegedly failed to pay for fuel at a service station in Walcha earlier that day, too.
When he disobeyed the directive to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
It continued to a rest stop at Twelve Mile Creek where the driver exited the Ford Falcon and entered bushland on foot.
Officers searched for the man with the assistance of the Dog Unit and PolAir.
However, he was not located.
A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a firearm.
Following extensive inquiries by detectives, a male was arrested at Fassifern Train Station about 2.40pm on Thursday 27 February.
He was taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with seven offences, including police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed (two counts); dishonestly obtain property by deception; use, supply, acquire, possess stolen firearm or part; possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority; possess unauthorised firearm; and not keep firearm safely.
The man appeared before Toronto Local Court on Friday 28 February, where he was formally refused bail to face Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 10 March.
