A 42-year-old man is set to face court after being charged with numerous traffic, drug and weapons offences in the Newcastle area.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District attempted to stop a vehicle, allegedly stolen from a Merewether address, on Union Street, The Junction, about 2pm on Tuesday 7 January.
When the driver failed to obey the directive, a pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle came to a stop on Henry Street, Merewether, where a male fled on foot.
A short time later, he was arrested by attending officers.
During a search of the man, police allegedly located and seized an amount of methamphetamine.
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner; police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly; and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
The man was also indicted over earlier alleged drug supply and weapons offences, including two counts of possess prohibited drug; supply prohibited drug (greater than indictable and less than commercial); possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit; and use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order.
He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 8 January.
