A man has been charged with murder following the death of a teenager in Lake Macquarie earlier today.
About 12.30am on Tuesday 16 March, police were called to a unit on Charlestown Road, Charlestown, following reports a boy was found unresponsive.
Upon arrival, police located the body of a 16-year-old inside the unit.
Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District established a crime scene and started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teen’s death.
Following inquiries, a 24-year-old man was arrested in a car park on Weakleys Drive, Thornton, about 2.10am.
The man was taken to Maitland Police Station, before being transferred to the Mater Hospital.
He was subsequently released and taken to Belmont Police Station, where he was charged with murder.
The man was refused bail to appear at Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 17 March.
Police believe the pair were known to each other.
Investigations are ongoing.
