A man will face court today charged with attempted murder after a domestic-related stabbing in Newcastle yesterday evening.
About 6.30pm on Friday 9 April, emergency services responded to a unit on William Street, Jesmond, following reports a 34-year-old woman had been stabbed by a male known to her.
Police were told the pair were arguing when the 38-year-old man allegedly stabbed the woman before she fled seeking assistance from neighbours.
She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital where she underwent surgery and remains in a critical condition.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District arrested the man at the scene.
He was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment before being transferred to Newcastle Police Station.
