A man will appear before Belmont Local Court on Tuesday after being charged with the alleged sexual assault on an elderly woman at an aged care facility.
Police were informed that about 12.40am on Wednesday 15 November, an unknown male broke into a facility in Bateau Bay on the Central Coast.
It’s claimed he then assaulted and sexually assaulted a 90-year-old woman.
She was taken to hospital and treated for serious injuries.
A crime scene was established by Tuggerah Lakes Police District before the investigation progressed to State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad under Strike Force Easterbrook.
About 9.20pm on Friday 17 November, detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – executed a search warrant at an address in The Entrance.
They located electronics, sim cards and clothing relevant to their investigation.
The items were seized to undergo further forensic examination.
Following further inquiries, about 7.30pm on Monday 21 November, strike force detectives – with assistance from Tuggerah Lakes Police District, Lake Macquarie Police District, Regional Enforcement Squad and Police Transport Command – attended a home in Caves Beach.
There, they arrested a 34-year-old man after he attempted to flee.
He was taken to hospital for minor injuries to his arm.
On his release, the man was conveyed to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-use violence, inflict actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with victim, aggravated sexual assault – break and enter with intent, and aggravated sexual assault – inflict actual bodily harm on victim.
He was refused bail to appear before court on 21 November.
