Police have charged a 29-year-old man following the alleged shooting of a teen at a Mayfield apartment two months ago.

On arrival, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District found a woman suffering a gunshot wound to her leg.

The 19-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police then began making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
