A 37-year-old man will face court over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in Newcastle earlier this month.
It comes after police received a report of an unsavoury incident on Friday 15 August.
Officers attached to Newcastle City PD were told a 14-year-old girl had been approached by an unknown male about 1.30am that day while she was waiting at the Hamilton Train Station.
They were further informed the man followed her as she left the area.
He then allegedly sexually assaulted the girl on Fern Street, Islington.
She was taken to hospital for assessment and detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad instigated Strike Force Keyneton to investigate the incident.
They, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad, executed a search warrant at a home on Campden Street, Thorton, about 7am on Monday 25 August.
The officers located and seized clothing, a backpack and an electronic device.
Following the search, a man was arrested at the scene before being taken to Maitland Police Station… and charged with have sexual intercourse with child between 14 and 16 years old and fail to comply with digital evidence access order direction.
After being refused bail, he’ll appear before Bail Division Local Court 2 on Tuesday 26 August.
