A 24-year-old man has been charged following the “suspicious” death of a local resident at Cooks Hill last week.
Emergency services made their way to a unit on Darby Street about 3.20am on Wednesday 10 December after receiving reports of an assault.
At the scene, police were told a 53-year-old male had allegedly been assaulted by another man who’d entered the unit.
The resident was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but unable to be revived.
Newcastle City Police District detectives then started an investigation under Strike Force Aztec, assisted by State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Following a post-mortem examination, officers executed a search warrant at a home in Seven Hills about 8.20am on Wednesday 17 December.
There, the 24-year-old was arrested, taken to Blacktown Police Station and charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent; and use etc offensive weapon in company with intent indictable offence.
After being formally refused bail, he’ll appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 11 February.
Inquiries into the incident are continuing under Strike Force Aztec.
