Man charged following public place shooting in East Maitland


Raptor Squad North detectives have charged a man following an investigation into a public place shooting in East Maitland earlier this year.

About 2am on Tuesday 30 January, officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were called to Gloaming Avenue.

It followed disturbing reports of shots being fired at a home.

A couple and three children were present at the time but, thankfully, they were uninjured.

Police will allege that several shots were fired towards the home, with a number striking the building.

Officers established a crime scene and began an investigation before the matter was referred to State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad North under Strike Force Kwani.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 29-year-old man in Bolwarra Heights on Thursday 14 March.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with fire firearm at dwelling house with disregard for safety, possess unregistered firearm-pistol, acquire ammunition for the firearm without licence/permit.

The man was refused bailed to appear before Maitland Local Court on Friday 15 March.
