A man will face court for a raft of charges following a dangerous pursuit through Lake Macquarie on Thursday.

Officers were attending a home on Shelly Street, in Toronto, about 11am on 23 January to speak to a male in relation to a traffic matter.

But, prior to the arrival of all responding police units, he left the premises in a vehicle allegedly bearing stolen number plates.

Highway Patrol officers tried to stop it, however when the driver failed to obey the directive, a chase was initiated.

It continued to The Boulevarde, Toronto, where it was terminated due to the alleged manner of driving.

A short time later, the man collided with a vehicle on Victory Road but he failed to stop and exchange details.

Police then initiated a second pursuit on Cary Street, Toronto, which continued to Edgeworth where officers lost sight of the offender.

Following inquiries, they attended a home on Windsor Street, Edgeworth, and arrested a 46-year-old man.

When he was searched, police seized a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

He was taken to Toronto Police Station and charged with 12 offences, including: police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously (three counts); drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (two counts); drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous; drive motor vehicle menaces another with intent; not give particulars to other driver; hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty; use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed; unlawfully possess number plates; and possess prohibited drug.

The man was also indicted for police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly; and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, in relation to an earlier incident.

He was refused bail to appear before Toronto Local Court on Friday 24 January.
