Police have charged a 36-year-old man following an alleged armed robbery at a licensed premises in Lake Macquarie last week.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie PD were called to a venue on Park Street, Edgeworth, about 9.30pm on Friday 9 January.
They received information a male threatened staff with a firearm and demanded cash.
But, the employees and patrons were able to wrestle him to the ground and remove the weapon prior to the arrival of police.
The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Toronto Police Station before being conveyed to the John Hunter Hospital for the treatment of a laceration to his arm.
No injuries were reported by the staff or patrons of the venue.
Upon the male’s release from hospital on Saturday 10 January, he was taken to Belmont Police Station and indicted for robbery while armed with dangerous weapon; possess unauthorised firearm; possess loaded firearm public place; armed with intent commit indictable offence; and face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence.
After being formally refused bail at the weekend, he’ll now appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 18 March.
