A man will face court this month after allegedly stealing essential rescue equipment from numerous Upper Hunter emergency services buildings.

Between January and March, officers from Hunter Valley Police District’s Rural Crime Prevention Team started investigations into five break and enters.

The offences were committed at premises located on Carrowbrook Road, Mt Olive; Glendonbrook Road, Glendonbrook; Sandy Creek Road, McCullys Gap; and Jerrys Plains Road, Denman.

During the incidents, a number of items – including essential rescue equipment – were allegedly stolen.

The emergency services station at Mt Olive was also broken into on two separate occasions.

Following extensive investigations, officers executed a search warrant at a unit on Corona Street, Mayfield, at 12.30pm on Tuesday 3 May.

Police claim many items from the emergency services premises were located in the unit.

They found cannabis and two push daggers, too.

All the items were seized for forensic examination.

About 7.50am on Friday 1 July, officers from the Newcastle City Police District Target Action Group and Warrant and Summons section – returned to the unit on Corona Street.

A 37-year-old was arrested after he attempted to flee the scene by jumping off a second storey balcony.

The man, who was uninjured, was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with two counts of break and enter house etc steal value; two counts of enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse; two counts of larceny value >$2000; enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence; two counts of destroy or damage property; two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit; possess prohibited drug; and goods suspected stolen in/on premises.

He was refused bail and will appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 14 July.
