Man charged after hosting gatherings at Shortland

SHARE

Several large gatherings in Shortland have proven very costly for the host and some of the attendees at the events.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District served one man with a Future Court Attendance Notice, while another three people were issued with Penalty Infringement Notices.

Police will allege a 22-year-old male staged a number of get-togethers at a home on Sandgate Road, Shortland, on three separate nights from Wednesday 28 July to Friday 30 July.

He is due to face Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday 28 September for breaching the current Public Health Order (PHO).

Two women, aged 21 and 20, have previously been issued Future Court Attendance Notices for attending the gatherings.

However, they remain before the courts.

All three people have since tested positive to COVID-19 and are now isolating.

“It’s disappointing to see those individuals who continue to flout the rules,” NSW Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Worboys said.

“I would strongly advise anyone who was there [Shortland] on those dates to get tested immediately.”

A further three people – two men aged 21 and 26, and a 20-year-old woman – were issued with $1000 Penalty Infringement Notices for attending the gatherings as police continue their inquiries to identify further guests.
