Hunter police are appealing for public assistance after a man was assaulted during a home invasion overnight at Lake Macquarie.
About 10.30pm on Sunday 28 January, the occupant of a granny flat on McEwan Street, Belmont South, was awoken when a male forced his way inside the property.
He fled the premises but was met by a further two men outside.
Police were told the trio assaulted the resident before stealing a set of car keys and fleeing the scene.
The local occupant, aged 25, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for facial injuries and swelling.
Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District established a crime scene, which was forensically examined by police.
As inquiries continue, they are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
