Stolen vehicle offences remain a high priority for the Newcastle City Police District after the arrest of a 44-year-old man yesterday.
On Sunday 1 November a Toyota Landcruiser was stolen from Shortland Esplanade, Newcastle East.
Police from the Proactive Crime Team were alerted to the incident and commenced an investigation, identifying a 44-year-old male as responsible.
At about 1:45pm yesterday (Monday 2 November), Proactive Crime Team Officers located the male on King Street in Newcastle West where he was arrested without incident and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
The male, who was on parole at the time until May 2021 and disqualified from driving till 2024 was charged with three offences including take and drive conveyance without consent, larceny and driving whilst disqualified.
He was refused bail by police to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 3 November).
