Make this your next step

If you have a tween daughter, chances are you’ve heard of The Next Step.

Victoria Baldesarra, who stars as Michelle in the Canadian dance drama series, says teenage girls aged 12 to 13 are one of the show’s biggest demographics, but that doesn’t stop children from as young as six or as old as 18 from enjoying the show and turning out to tours.

Returning to Australia next month, Baldesarra and nine others from The Next Step cast will kick things off at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on Thursday 19 September.

The Next Step – Absolute Dance will be a brand-new show that promises to be more interactive than ever before.

“We always get the crowd up to teach them a little dance – they love that,” Baldesarra tells Newcastle Weekly.

The 90-minute stage show features solos, duets, trios and group numbers choreographed to popular hit songs along with original music from the show.

This will be Baldesarra’s fourth trip to Australia – her second this year, after holding workshops in January.

“I’m super excited to be coming back to Australia, this time with a whole new cast,” Baldesarra adds.

The Canadian-born dancer has been plying her trade since she was three years old, dancing competitively since she was six; and is grateful the journey led her to acting.

“I’m so lucky to have made a career out of what I love,” she says.
