Construction on the Hexham Straight Widening project, along Maitland Road, is scheduled to continue throughout the week.
So, to minimise the impact to motorists, work will be carried out from 7pm to 5am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, finishing at 5am on Friday 12 July, weather permitting.
A contraflow is slated for the inbound lane and a reduced speed of 40km/h from the Newcastle Inner City Bypass to Ironbark Creek Bridge until Thursday 11 July.
The right-hand turn lane into the Newcastle Inner City Bypass will be temporarily closed, with traffic being detoured via Wallsend Road.
Over Size Over Mass (OSOM) operators with a ground contact wider than 3.2m and/or overall width greater than 4.5m are advised to phone the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 515 141.
Significant delays will occur otherwise.
Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is also pushing ahead on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace – Black Hill to Tomago project from Monday 8 until Friday 12 July.
The work will require lane closures and temporary speed reductions at the following locations and times:
Lenaghans Drive northbound and southbound traffic stoppages and speed reduction to 40km from 7am to 5pm, Monday 8 July to Friday 12 July
Pacific Highway northbound and southbound lane closures and speed reduction to 40km from 7pm to 5am, Monday 8 July to Friday 12 July
M1 Pacific Motorway northbound and southbound lane closures and speed reduction to 40km from 7pm to 5am, Monday 8 July to Friday 12 July
Old Punt Road eastbound and westbound lane closures and speed reduction to 40km from 7pm to 5am, Monday 8 July to Friday 12 July
OSOM operators with a ground contact wider than 3.2m and/or overall width greater than 4.5m are advised to touch base with the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 0423 323 946.
Again, significant delays will occur if no communication is made.
Meanwhile, kerb and guttering replacement is planned for O’Brien Street at Gateshead.
For the safety of workers and motorists, the section of thoroughfare between Oxford and Heshbon streets will be open to local traffic only.
The work is taking place from 7am to 4pm, weekdays, and expected to be complete in five days.
Street parking will be restricted along that section of O’Brien Street.
“We’re asking residents to park in driveways or on Heshbon Street [during this time],” a TfNSW spokesperson said.
“Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
“We thank everyone for their patience during this time.”
