Maitland soccer fans are in for a treat as the Newcastle Jets and Macarthur FC are set to land in the city for a trial match at the end of this month.
It comes in the lead up to the 2020/2021 A-League season and will take place at Maitland’s No.1 Sportsground, kicking off at 5:15pm on Thursday 26 November.
It will be the first game the Jets have played in Maitland since 2018, when they competed in trial matches against Central Coast Mariners and Western Sydney Wanderers.
It’s also the first time soccer fans can watch Macarthur FC face a fellow A-League side, as part of the team’s inaugural national football competition season.
Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Lawrie McKinna said the team was excited to bring another pre-season match to the city.
“Maitland Sportsground is a great facility that we’ve enjoyed playing at in the past,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to taking on the League’s newest side Macarthur FC, and hope that we see plenty of Jets fans there to support our boys.”
Maitland City Council is also keen for the event, welcoming soccer fans who have missed the opportunity to attend sporting events due to COVID-19.
Mayor Loretta Baker says the council is offering free admission to entice spectators, with an option for grandstand tickets at just $5.
“It’s fantastic to have the Newcastle Jets back in Maitland and we’re excited to be able to offer the community an opportunity to enjoy a live A-League experience in accordance with our COVID Safe plan,” she said.
“We’ve had a wonderful experience with the Jets over recent years and I encourage everyone to get their tickets and come along for what will no doubt be another great evening when they take on Macarthur FC.”
Both the free admission and grandstand ticket options will be available to purchase online from midday today.
With COVID-19 restrictions, the event will only allow a certain number of attendees – so get in quick to secure your place.
