Maitland to celebrate big talent at Little Festival

SHARE

From yarn bombing and tiny art to paste-ups and sticker stories – the Little Festival is a celebration of the creativity found in the little things.

And, it’s coming to Maitland on Saturday 15 April.

Following its inaugural launch in Newcastle last October, Little Festival director and producer Jacinta Fintan is bringing the street art event to High Street from 9.30am to 2pm.

The experienced event planner is inviting the community to look beyond the big-hero walls of murals and billboards and appreciate the talent that creates the smallest of art pieces.

Little Festival is a curation of smallscale street art in the city’s most intriguing spaces, along High Street, in alleyways and shrouded from view.

It has been described as both vibrant and whimsical.

The street art festival walking trail incorporates temporary live graffiti art painting, miniatures, art workshops, pop-up street art exhibitions, activations, roving performers and live music throughout the day.

“It has always been the smaller organic street art pieces that have caught my attention when I’m walking down laneways and alleyways,” says Jacinta.

“I’m excited to curate an inclusive artist line-up for Little Festival, it’s a real chance to elevate the issue of diversity in the street art industry.”

Maitland City Council is supporting the delivery of Little Festival Maitland 2023 through the Creative Streets, which is funded by NSW Government.

“We’re delighted to support Little Festival through our Creative Streets grants initiative,” said events coordinator Adam Franks.

“It’s important that council has a role to play in bolstering Maitland’s arts scene and supporting local creatives through their work.

“Little Festival forms part of a bumper program of school holiday activities that we have coming up during April, and we hope the community turn up in droves to check it out.”
