Sporting venues in the Maitland Local Government Area (LGA) will score big, thanks to a $900,000 makeover.

Much-needed maintenance is planned at 43 outdoor facilities across the region, following consultation with the respective user-groups.

Among the top projects, a whopping $106,000 will be spent on fencing, field and minor grandstand repairs at Coronation Oval and Hartcher Field in Telerah, while Morpeth Oval can expect new playing wickets and goal posts, via $67,150.

$30,000 will be spent on roof and gutter repairs at Thornton Oval,

Another $52,500 is slated for court restoration and spotlights at the Maitland Netball Association’s Gipps Street venue, with the Bolwarra Tennis Club also set to benefit from $51,000 for lighting and the removal of old footpaths.

A further $30,000 will be outlaid on roof and gutter repairs at Thornton Oval.

“Council engaged with local user-groups earlier this year, before conducting a series of audits on outdoor facilities,” Maitland City mayor Philip Penfold said.

“We listened to the community’s needs and we’re cracking on with the job.

“These enhancements will allow us to improve the quality of our sport and recreation facilities for local clubs and user-groups, now and into the future.

“Maitland is a passionate sporting community.

“So, we want to make sure our athletes have the infrastructure they need to perform at their very best.”

Work at the 43 facilities will take place over the next six months, while council continues planning for significant infrastructure upgrades as part of capital expenditure works for 2025/26.

Maitland City will individually notify all user-groups about upcoming maintenance at their facility.
