Ghouls, ghosts, witches, skeletons, pirates, nurses and even superheroes took to the streets on Monday evening… all in the name of Halloween.
Although it’s an American tradition, the “trick-or-treating” custom has surged in popularity on Australian shores in recent years.
And, it was certainly evident in Maitland on 31 October.

“We look forward to this event every 12 months,” one resident said.
“In fact, we started sorting out what we were going to wear back in August.

“I think a few of the adults enjoy it as much as the kids.
“Some of the home-owners around here have gone way above and beyond with their decorations.
“It’s fantastic to see.”

Hundreds of children, dressed in impressive costumes, and their parents – some of whom joined the colourful spectacle – travelled from house-to-house throughout Aberglasslyn, Rutherford and neighbouring suburbs, seeking treats.
And, from the looks of it, many were rewarded for the efforts, by the size of their hefty lolly bags.
