Maitland Private Hospital to undergo multi-million-dollar expansion

Maitland Private Hospital is set to undergo a multi-million-dollar transformation in a bid to provide much-needed extensions to its existing facilities.

The latest enhancements will incorporate the current mental health and oncology services.

Increasing the Barrington Clinic to 68 beds, and including new patient areas, an open-air terrace, dedicated consulting rooms, extra therapy spaces and additional car parking are all components of phase one of the $13 million project.

Work is expected to be completed in mid-2024, according to Maitland Private Hospital CEO Peter Cizzio.

“We’re pleased to provide increased capacity in the hospital for services that are so desperately needed in our region,” he said.

“The expanded facility will be headed up by Director of Psychiatry Dr Chris Wellard, assisted by a growing team of dedicated psychiatrists, mental health nurses, allied health professionals and support staff.

“As demand for mental health services continues to grow, they’ll bring a wealth of experience to our region, which will ultimately see an improvement in access to quality mental health care.”

Once phase one is completed, works to relocate and upgrade Maitland Cancer Centre will begin.

The redeveloped facility will include an expanded 12-chair infusion lounge and dedicated medical and radiation oncology consulting suites.

However, during the construction period, while Maitland Private Hospital and the Barrington Clinic will continue to operate as normal, patients and visitors should expect some disruptions.

“As part of the development, there’ll be an increase to the car parking options on site,” Mr Cizzio said.

“But, in the short-term, this will mean a restricted number of available parking spaces while the new car park is under construction.

“Where possible, I urge patients coming to hospital to arrange being dropped off and picked up for ease of access during the work.”

Maitland Private Hospital also offers comprehensive surgical, oncological, intensive care and rehabilitation health facilities and a full range of specialist consulting rooms onsite.
