Maitland council looks toward 2032

SHARE

Maitland City Council is already looking towards 2032 – but it wants input from all residents to help confirm its goals for the next decade.

It’s been 10 years since the first community strategic plan was prepared.

Over that time, it has guided the expansion of council programs in areas such as events and place activation and set the agenda for major projects, including the redevelopment of The Levee and The Riverlink building, Maitland Regional Sports Complex and the indoor pool at Maitland Aquatic Centre.

Council is calling on the community to participate in the review process to guide the development of an updated 10-year plan.

“We conduct regular reviews of Maitland +10 and, currently, we are building on the feedback residents have provided over the past 18 months,” mayor Loretta Baker said.

“We’ve heard locals are keen to support community and economic growth but want to manage the impact of population growth on the environment, our social connections, and movement across the city.

“We’re asking them ‘have we got it right?’

“I encourage everyone to get involved in the review and help to shape this important document that will inform our delivery programming as council, and also importantly advocacy to other levels of government in addressing the needs of our community over the next 10 years.”

Residents are encouraged to have their say on four focus areas of Let’s Connect, Let’s Grow, Let’s Sustain and Let’s Lead.

They can provide their ideas by visiting the interactive discussion board online and via a survey at www.maitland.mysocialpinpoint.com/maitland10

The Maitland +10 focus areas are open for community comment until Sunday 10 October.

Residents will help inform the development of the draft revised community strategic plan, which will be exhibited for final public feedback in April next year.

Online form submissions, email and letters addressed to the General Manager are also avenues available to those who wish to have a say.

Maitland +10 provides a single point of reference for residents, council, state government agencies, community groups, non-government organisations, businesses and individuals, who all work together to plan and build the ideal future.

“We want to know what matters to our community,” Cr Baker said.

“This is an opportunity to check in and make sure we have captured the key priorities they want us to work on together so council can continue to deliver on the things that matter to everyone.”
