Low flying owl hits driver in head, causes crash

A low flying owl has hit a delivery driver in the head, causing him to crash into a parked car in Belmont North.

At 10.30pm on Saturday 12 December, the delivery man was traveling west on John Street when the owl flew through the open driver’s window.

The bird then struck the head of the driver, a 21-year-old male from Birmingham Gardens.

The impact stunned the young man – and owl; and caused the van to collide with an unattended parked car, causing considerable damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the van, fearing he would be attacked for a second time, jumped from his vehicle and was assisted by nearby residents, one of whom photographed the owl seated on the dash of the delivery van.

The owl failed to exchange particulars and made good his escape before the police arrived on scene.

If you recognise the owl, please contact your nearest police station.
