Newly married to her beloved Shane Bradley Cooper, Effie is experiencing what she calls the seventh-month itch.
The urge to swipe right is tempting even to those with the greatest of willpowers. Who isn’t on Tinder?
Is it possible to be smokin’ hot and hit upon every day and still stay faithful? Is it love at first sight or love at first swipe?
Australian actress Mary Coustas plays everyone’s favourite gregarious Greek goddess Effie in her latest one-hour show Effie in Love Me Tinder.
After a sold-out national tour of Star Wogs in 2018, and two national tours in 2016 and 2017 of her critically acclaimed one-woman show: Effie the Virgin Bride, the new show sees Effie holding up a mirror to the complexities of finding love and keeping it in the modern age of digital dating.
Coustas will bring the show to the Hunter on Friday 27 March as part of Spiegeltent – an annual pop-up festival.
“[Effie] is still desperately in love with her husband but she’s unleashed the beast within,” Coustas says.
“She now understands what all the fuss is about and why everything is centred around sex.
“Curiosity killed the cat, but she doesn’t want it to kill her marriage.”
Coustas, who will make her debut at Spiegeltent, adds that Effie in Love Me Tinder is a fun show that encourages interactions with the audience.
“My audience are stars as well – they are very devoted and animated,” Coustas says.
“Effie needs to lean on the audience for courage and clarity.
“There is a real demand for live comedy and honest conversations.”
Effie in Love Me Tinder starts at 6.30pm. Tickets cost $49 for general admission or $44 concession.
Spiegeltent Newcastle will go from Thursday 26 March to Sunday 19 April at Civic Park (corner of Darby and King streets, Newcastle).
