A number of Hunter-based enterprises were recently honoured at the Australian Small Business Champion Awards.
The only nationally-recognised program of its kind, it aims to acknowledge outstanding ventures and encourage high standards of excellence in small business practice.
The long-awaited ceremony took place on Saturday 27 February at the International Convention Centre, at Darling Harbour, with about 1,000 guests in attendance.
Among the winners were Newcastle and Hunter Community Health (Newcastle West) in the professional medical services category; The Garis Group (Hamilton) in the accounting services class; Hunter Care Group (Cardiff) in the business growth section; and SAGE Painting (Merewether) in the trade services classification.
Central Coast’s Ecoline (Tuggerah) took out the specialised small business title.
Each received an award statuette, certificate and gained Australia-wide recognition as a leader in their industry.
Newcastle and Hunter Community Health managing director Alison McQueen admitted it was “such a thrilling surprise” to be acknowledged nationally for their dedication, commitment and hard work in the medical sector.
“We were extremely proud to be recognised as a finalist,” she said.
“To hear our business being called out as a winner is an experience we will never forget.
“Last year was a difficult one for so many businesses; and especially those who are front line workers providing essential care and services to keep their community safe and healthy.
“Keeping in mind the safety of our team, and above all else the safety of our clients, has been our priority from day one.
“I believe it is this continuous commitment to quality care that see us standing today with this award.”
Precedent Productions managing director and awards founder Steve Loe said in a year that was plagued by a pandemic and saw many small businesses struggle, it was rewarding to celebrate those who overcame adversity to come out the other side.
“The Australian Small Business Champion Awards is a way to recognise the efforts of small business people whose efforts contribute to the prosperity and vitality of communities across Australia,” he explained.
“As a small business owner myself, I know the vision and dedication to excellence required to succeed.”
