Little Quirks back on stage and heading to Newcastle

SHARE

If you’re a fan of Mumford and Sons, The Cranberries or folk-rock music you need to check out Little Quirks.

For Novocastrians, they’re show at The Cambridge Hotel on Saturday (4 December) could be the perfect introduction to their incredible sound.

Singer and guitarist Abbey Toole says they’re excited to be hitting the road again.

“We’re beyond thrilled,” she said.

“We’ve been counting down the days, we are very very excited.

“We have missed it heaps, it’s the best part of the job.”

The second show on their The Rain Is Coming Tour, the group will be returning to the city for the first time in a little while – it’s one of their favourite places to perform.

“We love playing in Newcastle, we actually started playing in the city when we were very young,” Abbey said.

“It’s always so good to go back there and we love playing at The Cambridge Hotel.”

A family band from the Central Coast, they are a group of talented musicians and songwriters (vocals, guitar – Abbey Toole, vocals, mandolin – Jaymi Toole, drums – Mia Toole, bass – Alex Toole, lead guitar – Jordan Rouse) with a big future ahead.

“So it started with my little sister and my older cousin,” Abbey said.

“We got together when we were very young so I think I was 13, my sister was 10 and my cousin was 16.

“We started off as buskers and we would just go around to markets and play on the side of the street and at the end we would split up what we earnt and that would be our pocket money.

“We then started writing our own music and when we performed at our first festival we were sold.

“We’ve been doing it ever since.”

While they have an impressive catalogue of their own songs, my favourites are Someone to Hold and Bury Our Bones, the group also does an amazing cover of ABBA’s hit SOS and AURORA’s Conquerer.

Like most people in the music industry, the last couple of years have been a struggle for the group.

“It’s been really hard, all there really is to do is write music but it’s hard to be inspired when you can’t go out and see people,” Abbey said.

“We’re pretty lucky that my dad records a lot of our demos so we were able to record and play in that sense but the music industry has been hit really hard with everything.”

They’re not letting it stop them though, Little Quirks plans to release more music in 2022.

Abbey says they’ll give concert-goers a sneak peak when they play some of the new songs during their shows this year.

Moving forward, the band is hoping to keep growing.

“We want to tour the world,” Abbey said.

“We want to keep writing and releasing music and we want to make it to the big time.”
