They say lightning never strikes the same place twice.
But, in the case of one Nelson Bay resident, that doesn’t mean anything.
Exactly a year to the day after his previous major win, the Port Stephens man collected a $222,000 Keno prize.
He scored the Classic 9 Spot jackpot of $222,689.70, drawn on Tuesday 11 June.
Despite the uncanny coincidence, the local admitted he would wait until he received the windfall before he made any concrete plans.
“I was in sheer disbelief when I found out,” he laughed.
“It’s the most I’ve ever won.
“To be quite frank, I had picked up a smaller major prize when I was away in Queensland on that date last year.
“So, I decided to try my luck with the same numbers.”
The winning entry was unregistered, which means officials from Keno had to wait for the winner to check their ticket and come forward.
“I couldn’t believe it when my numbers came up again,” the man said.
“They’re definitely my lucky numbers now.
“They consist of family dates and ages.
“Thank you so much.
“It will go to good use – not sure what yet – but we will see.”
His winning Keno Classic entry was purchased at the Seabreeze Hotel in Stockton Street, Nelson Bay.
The Seabreeze Hotel team was stoked to have sold a major Keno winning entry and couldn’t be happier for their local winner.
In 2023, players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 67.31 million wins collectively worth more than $1 billion.
During this time, Keno crowned 21 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $51.5 million.
Eleven of these major winners were from New South Wales and the ACT, including a Shelly Beach dad who scored a $5.92 million bounty.
