Life Without Barriers joins race to vaccinate

Life Without Barriers has a dedicated disability vaccination hub in Newcastle.

Designed to accommodate people with a disability and their support staff, the venue is part of the federal government’s plan to accelerate vaccinations for all Australians.

The hub, located in King Street, is for those eligible under the Phase 1A and Phase 1B priority groups.

Working in partnership with Aspen Medical vaccination team LWB is taking appointments for people with a disability and their support staff in the region from today, Friday 6 August.

People in Phase 1A Priority group include people with disability who live in supported accommodation with an NDIS funded Disability Service Provider, and disability support workers who work with people living in supported accommodation employed by an NDIS registered provider.

People Phase 1B Priority group include people with disability who live in the community and receive support from Disability Support Workers through an NDIS funded disability service, disability support workers working with people with disability in the community and who are employed by an NDIS registered disability provider and a family member of a person with a disability, if they live with that family member.

“If you are eligible for the Life Without Barriers hub you will have been provided with information on how to access the hub by your NDIS registered disability provider or your employer,” a LWB spokesperson said on Friday.

“Those family members who are decision makers for their loved ones, and yet to provide consent for vaccination, can still do so by contacting their local support team or calling the Life Without Barriers National COVID-19 Response Call Centre on 1800 313 117.”

Those who are not eligible for the LWB Covid-19 Vaccine hub are advised to access the Department of Health’s Covid-19 Vaccine Eligibility Checker to find out how to access a Covid-19 vaccine.

Participants will be asked to show proof of employment where relevant.
