Lauren is a journalist at NBN News in Newcastle. She originally grew up in Cessnock, went to school in Maitland, and graduated with a Bachelor of Communication from the University of Newcastle in 2018.
Writing has always been a passion for Lauren and, as a teenager, she knew she wanted to find a way to do it every day.
Spending time at local radio stations, the university’s student communication team and NBN during her degree eventually led to a job at NBN, which she says she is “so grateful for”.
Getting to know the community better has quickly turned into one of her favourite parts of the job.
“I feel so lucky to share the stories of those in it, and report on issues that matter to local people,” she says.
Lauren can’t think of anywhere she’d rather live than Newcastle.
Getting Outdoors:
Taking a walk with friends is easily one of my favourite things to do. I love being in the mountains, or anywhere with plenty of green.
Work:
When you’re working from the road, no day is the same, which is what I love most about being a reporter. After a few years now in local news, I know it’s the perfect job for me.
Good Food/Wine:
Growing up in the Hunter Valley, I’ve been very spoilt. I love going out for a great meal or a glass of local wine – now I just need to learn to cook a lot better than I do.
Dogs:
Our family recently lost our beautiful dog Lilly after 16 amazing years – she was our best friend. But we have another little friend, Daisy, who joined us last month!
Family:
My family and my partner Jake are such a big part of my life. Whether it’s watching a funny show on TV or going out for a fish, it’s always great to spend time together.
