One of the region’s most popular events, the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival, is among the beneficiaries of an Australian Government grant.
The annual rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza – which celebrates everything good about the 50s and 60s via classic cars, hot rods, fashion, retro market stalls, music, dancing and much more – will return in 2024 on the weekend of 22 and 24 March.
And, organisers Towns With Heart Inc have been buoyed by a $10,000 windfall to enhance its social connection with the community as the government continues to invest in rural areas following COVID-19.
On this occasion, more than $470,000 will flow to 55 local-led projects across the country.
“The reality is, the people of Paterson are still rebounding from the huge impacts of the pandemic, which is why we’re investing in ventures that bring communities together,” Paterson MP Meryl Swanson said.
“Every cent counts in our regions.
“That’s why this $10,000 towards the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival will have a lasting benefit in this community.
“It draws thousands of people from all over the country.
“I couldn’t be prouder or happier to see this money contributing to a brilliant event, our terrific residents and showcasing my hometown.”
The funding is part of the Albanese government’s $5 million investment from 2022 to 2024 in the Rebuilding Regional Communities stream of the FRRR’s Strengthening Rural Communities program.
“When we back local ideas and invest in local priorities, we get better outcomes in our communities,” Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Kristy McBain said.
“Our regional areas are also known for their strong sense of community.
“So, we’re committed to strengthening this following the COVID-19 disruption, by improving facilities and getting engaging workshops and education programs off the ground.
“These projects will allow organisations to expand their services.”
