Kotara to welcome first Lids in Newcastle

Lids is opening its first Newcastle outlet in Kotara this week.

The move takes the American sports giant’s Australian footprint to 10 stores in total, courtesy of its launch on Saturday 12 November.

Renowned for selling more than 30 million caps each year, Lids also stocks an extensive range of sporting jerseys and apparel.

Its range features sporting teams and players across the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Football League (NFL) and National Hockey League (NHL).

After recently opening stores in Emporium Melbourne, Geelong, Macquarie Park, Westpoint Blacktown, Westfield Parramatta and Northland Shopping Centre, Lids will soon welcome Woodgrove in Victoria, opening March 2023.

One of the group’s most popular store inclusions is the Custom Lids, offering customers the option to have their merchandise custom embroidered.

Lids was founded in Boston in 1993 and is reputed as being worth more than $100 million.

The group also owns the first NBA Store in Australia, located at the Emporium Melbourne, with the second NBA Store to open in Sydney in the near future.

Lids operates the NBA’s flagship stores in New York, London and Paris, as well as an upcoming store in Berlin.

The new store is a coup for Westfield Kotara who lost retail giant Zara from its Northcott Drive address in September, just four years after it opened.

Westfield Kotara currently has 276 shops that span 82,433m² of floor space.
