Knights re-sign tryscoring machine Marzhew

It’s been a huge week for Newcastle Knights’ powerhouse winger Greg Marzhew.

Fresh from scoring five tries against the St George Illawarra Dragons at the weekend, the 29-year-old inked a three-season extension that will keep him at the Hunter club until the end of the 2029 season.

Since joining Newcastle from the Gold Coast Titans in 2023, the former Junior Kiwi has made every post a winner.

Marzhew currently sits second in the NRL for line breaks and is among the competition’s leading tryscorers.

He equalled the Knights’ record in the side’s blistering 44-10 victory over the Dragons, touching down twice in the first half and adding another three four-pointers after the break.

All up, he’s crossed the line on 13 occasions in 2026 alone.

Newcastle’s head of recruitment Peter O’Sullivan said it was great to get Marzhew’s future sorted.

“Greg has been in stellar form,” he explained.

“He’s thriving outside Bradman [Best]… and we’re pleased he’s recommitted to the club.

“The game is dependent on backfield carries and Greg has one of the best in the NRL.

“Along with his tryscoring ability, he produces tries that others just can’t score.

“Greg is an important signing.

“He’s extremely popular within the playing group and throughout the organisation… our community loves him, too.”

Head coach Justin Holbrook said he was thrilled Marzhew had chosen to stay with the Knights.

“Greg is an extremely important part of our left edge,” he added.

“After being a late starter in the NRL, he has improved each year, with his form this season showing he is a world-class winger.

“This contract extension is a great reward for all his hard work.”

Ironically, Newcastle faces Marzhew’s former side, the Titans, during Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday 17 May.

The match kicks off from 2pm.
