Knights rally to support Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS) and Newcastle Knights are joining forces to hit the road in two months’ time.

The inaugural Knights Rescue Rally, a four-day fun-filled spectacle, will take place from 5-8 May to coincide with the NRL club’s clash with the Canberra Raiders in Wagga Wagga on 8 May.

WRHS CEO Richard Jones said he was “extremely happy” to see the car rally launch with the support of event partners Ampcontrol, NSW Mining and BJ Howes, especially after a long period without travel.

“If you support the Knights and want to help your local Rescue Helicopter, then this is the event for you,” he stated.

“The fact that participants will venture through many rural communities that could really use the help is a bonus.

“This event is all about bringing our communities together, making a difference and simply having a good time.”

The Knights Rescue Rally will feature participants driving from Newcastle to Wagga Wagga visiting beautiful country towns like Mudgee, Bathurst, Sofala, Carcoar, Parkes and West Wyalong.

Many of these locations are home to gold, copper and coal mining operations that are a big part of the local economy and community, similar to the Hunter.

Cars of all shapes and sizes are welcome whether it’s your family wagon, a luxury car, 4WD or a people mover – as long its registered in NSW.

Motorists will visit wineries, quaint country cafes and pubs and even don their best Elvis suit, ready for a night out in the Elvis capital of Australia, Parkes.

The adventure culminates in Wagga for the NRL showdown between the mighty Knights and Raiders.

Participants will also enjoy many activities including a pre-match dinner with ex-players and coaching staff; and watch the game with some special country hospitality.

Knights CEO Phil Gardiner said the club was thrilled to support the event.

The organisation and the WRHS have enjoyed a long-standing community partnership and will soon be neighbours with the Knights Centre of Excellence being built next to the service’s Broadmeadow base.

“We encourage Newcastle supporters and those looking for a fantastic trip through regional NSW to get a team of work mates, family or friends together and enter a car into the Knights Rescue Rally,” Mr Gardiner said.

“It’s a chance to get behind two great local organisations.”

If you support the Knights and want to help the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service then this is the event for you.
