Knights lock in key duo for the future

The Newcastle Knights have secured two key pieces of their NRLW squad, with Georgia Roche and Sidney Taylor signing contract extensions to remain in the red and blue.

Roche has committed to the Knights until the end of 2030, while Taylor has signed a new deal keeping her at the club until the end of 2028.

The moves come as the Knights head into the business end of the NRLW season, with both players emerging as important parts of the club’s future.

Roche joined Newcastle from the Leeds Rhinos in 2023 and has become a key figure in the side.

The English international and dual premiership winner has transitioned into the halfback role this season, with her combination with Kirra expected to continue developing.

NRLW head coach Ben Jeffries said the 26-year-old was a priority signing for the club.

“Georgia is a priority signing and important foundation for our club to build around,” Jeffries said.

Roche has also made a significant impact within the playing group, while her running game has become an important part of Newcastle’s attack.

Jeffries said he expected Roche to continue improving as she enters the prime years of her career.

Taylor’s rise has been even quicker.

The centre joined the Knights this season after a decorated career in Australian Rugby Sevens and has made an immediate impact in the NRLW.

Her speed and power have been a feature of her debut season, with the 2028 extension giving her the opportunity to continue developing in Newcastle.

“Sidney’s transition from Rugby Sevens to the NRLW has been remarkable,” Jeffries said.

“She has stepped into the NRLW with a bang, and her impact has been immediate.”

Taylor’s performances have also put her on the representative radar, with Jeffries backing the 2026 recruit to push for higher honours.

“She has representative aspirations, and we believe those opportunities will come soon,” he said.

The Knights will now have both players locked in for the coming seasons, with Roche contracted through 2030 and Taylor through 2028.
