Junior pro run and won

Central Coast duo Molly Picklum and Caleb Tancred stormed past an impressive international field to claim Lake Mac City Pro Junior titles at the weekend.

After an action-packed opening day at Redhead Beach, the competition got underway again on Sunday but was shifted to Catherine Hill Bay after a strong southerly front moved through the region mid-morning.

In the men’s Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) 1000 event, Tancred, an Avoca local, tore through the field, posting excellent scores all event.

It was no different in the final as he threw down a 15.25, out of a possible 20, two-wave combination.

Fellow finalists Alister Reginato, Tane Bowden and Jagger Bartholomew put on a great chase, but couldn’t catch a rampaging Tancred, who was surfing in his fourth final from five events.

In the women’s JQS, Shelly Beach’s Picklum made it a double for the Central Coast.

After a tussle for the top spot with Californian standout Alyssa Spencer, Picklum was able to run away with her second JQS victory for 2019.

Up next on the Surfest schedule is the Orica Teams Challenge, which will take place at Stockton Beach from 23 to 24 February.
